The fundamental 1064nm wavelength is generated in the Active Crystal (AC) end pumped by an 808nm pump diode as in a traditional architecture.
In the KLASTECH design however, this fundamental wavelength light circulates in the cavity created by mirrors R0 and R1 that contain AC, as well as in the cavity created by mirrors R1 and R2 that contain the nonlinear crystal, NC. These two cavities are coupled to each other via the intra-cavity coupler Rc. The reflectivity value of Rc is carefully chosen so that the input impedance of the second cavity (R1-R2) at the fundamental wavelength is equal to the output impedance of the first cavity (R0-R1) at the moment when the two cavities are tuned in resonance by the fine piezo-electric positioning of the mirror R2. As the result of this impedance-matching between the two cavities, for any 808nm pump input the extraction of the 1064nm power from AC is always at the maximum making the fundamental wavelength power circulating through NC within the second cavity significantly higher as compared with traditional architectures. Clearly this enables a significant increase in the production of 532nm light through the second harmonic generation process in NC.
